These quilts are being raffled to benefit the charity The Siver Coin Project.
The Silver Coin Project is a small Not for Profit family run charity organisation, and will be the recipients of the proceeds from the Exhibition Quilt Raffle this year.
Both of the organisers, Jenny and Darko, work at full time jobs and spend most of their free time volunteering to help disadvantaged children in the Macarthur area.
The children in need are identified through the teachers at one of the 23 schools they help. Over the years they have assisted 1000’s of children with items for school like backpacks, shoes, uniforms, pens, pencils, school excursions, breakfast and lunches, just so that there is no excuse for the child not to attend school each day. Each year they try to provide at least one $1000 scholarship for a child entering high school.
They have just started tutoring in the local Library every week free of charge to the children who need extra assistance to keep up with their lessons. These sessions are tailored to each child so that if they need to learn reading or maths skills, those are the areas targeted.
The Charity doesn’t receive any other financial support. All of their funds come from running Bunnings BBQ’s, meat raffles at the local hotel and donation tins at restaurant and café cash registers. 250 backpacks were delivered to 27 surrounding schools after the devastating fires a couple of years ago. All of the items were donated by the local community.
